Be it on a plaza in Queretaro, Mexico, the Peninsula Park Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon, or simply Berkshire woods near my home, surprise moments invariably occur if you “peel your eyes.” Capturing an unexpected, quirky or ironic scene is what makes photography so rewarding and yes, fun.

Just here, before my eyes was a photo shoot with an aide lifting the bride’s skirt to better arrange it. Making it all the better was her pose elegantly leaning against a column of the Palacio de Justicio. A perfect moment - when all else is planned and serious. Not always so easy to capture. There’s no rehearsing involved.

This piece is not just about people but also the confluence of objects, such as rusty chairs, an old tractor and nature. Unlike street scenes you don’t have to wait for any action to occur.

Objects take on new dimension when juxtaposed by a human element such as a pink and white girls dress on a motorcycle on a cobblestones street.

And then we have the contrast between nature and abandoned furniture or machinery.

Top on my list though is right here below: nature just doing its thing on man-made structures such as a forbidding glass-studded wall.
